Eist Linn marked the Women's Aid 16 Days of Action campaign 2009 with an Ecumenical service in the O'Connell Memorial Church Cahersiveen on Thursday 10th December - also International Human Right's Day.
The service was a great success and the first of its kind in southwest Kerry. It included reflections, poetry, prayers, readings and music on the issue of violence against women and children. Wreath's made by local community and women's groups were laid at the altar, and candles lit in memory of the 159 women murdered in the Republic of Ireland since 1996. Each of the 159 women were represented by a white paper cross on the altar.
Refreshments were served afterwards in the new offices of Southwest Kerry Family Resource Centre.
Thank you to all those who took part.
It is hoped to make this service an annual event and we will continue to sell Eist Linn lapel pins throughout the year to help raise awareness of our group and the issue of domestic violence. The pins cost 2 Euro each and are available from SKWA, the Southwest Kerry Family Resource Centre and Eist Linn members.
